🏁 PH NEWS: Mostert “Disqualified Himself” From The Double Stint… From A Bar 🍺
Share
Only at the Bathurst 12 Hour could this happen.
Quick background for the uninitiated:
The race is 12 hours around Mount Panorama Circuit. It’s fast. It’s narrow. It’s 30-plus degree Australian summer. And it’s packed with proper GT3 machinery from Mercedes, Ferrari, BMW and friends.
Now the key bit.
In endurance racing, the “double stint” at the end is where one poor soul stays in the car for two fuel runs back-to-back. In a GT3 car. In Australia. In summer. Wearing a helmet. With the engine in front of you blasting hot air at you like an industrial sized hair dryer.
Normally this is manageable because of cool suits. Except… the cool suits were playing up.
Enter Chaz Mostert.
After finishing his stint, Mostert didn’t just head to debrief. He didn’t just grab a water. No no. He jogged up to Robbo’s Bar on Conrod Straight.
And then — from the bar — he waved at co-driver Cam Waters as he blasted past in their Mercedes GT3.
Why?
Because if you’re visibly standing at a bar with a drink in hand… you’re very clearly not eligible to jump back in the car for a double stint.
Modern problems require modern solutions.
It was the most polite way of saying:
“Mate, I would absolutely help you out with that boiling hot, two-stint sauna session… but unfortunately I’ve already commenced hydration of the fermented variety.”
We respect it.
Let’s be honest. If the cool suit isn’t working, nobody is volunteering to sit in what is essentially a carbon fibre convection oven for countless hours. Bathurst in February is not the time to prove your toughness.
And that’s why we love this sport.
Yes, it’s world-class machinery. Yes, it’s elite drivers. Yes, it’s flat-out terrifying across the top of the mountain.
But it’s also professional racing drivers fake-disqualifying themselves from extra work by publicly appearing to be on the beers.
This is why we don’t take racing too seriously.
Because sometimes the smartest race strategy is:
Do your stint.
Leave the garage.
Go to the bar.
Wave.
Let your mate sweat.
Peak endurance racing energy.
