About Us

Hi, I'm Paul
I was born into motorsport. Not metaphorically. Literally.
My dad had a successful company building racing engines for a living and raced National Autograss himself, so I practically grew up in a dyno cell and trackside. I'm pretty sure I knew the four-stroke cycle before I knew the alphabet. My first steps as a toddler happened at a race track (pictures to prove it!) — which probably explains a lot.
As soon as I was old enough (legally) I started racing myself. I began in National Autograss at 16, then moved through BriSCA Hotstox and National Hot Rods before eventually finding my way back to Autograss again.
Then life took a slightly unexpected detour when I moved to the United States for ten years, as you do.
Naturally, my priorities stateside were completely sensible.
Before buying a road car.
Before buying a house.
I bought an Outlaw late model so I could go stock car racing at the local short track. Financial planning has never really recovered from that decision, but it was absolutely the correct one.
Professionally, motorsport followed me everywhere too. After university I worked for Cosworth Electronics developing ECUs and data logging systems, along with trackside support in championships like BTCC, British Superbikes and WRC. Which mostly involved chasing electrical gremlins and occasionally explaining to drivers that yes — the data was right.

So between racing badly myself and helping professionals do it properly, motorsport has basically been the background noise to my entire life.
Which is exactly why Purple Helmet exists.
Andy and I had been joking about it for years — the shared humour of grassroots racing, the chaos of the pits, the inside jokes that only make sense if you’ve changed a diff outside the stadium, in Baltic conditions nursing a hangover. (Buxton raceway, I'm talking about you).
Purple Helmet Racewear is basically that humour, turned into something you can wear to the track.
Hi, I'm Catherine!

I’m Catherine Potter, a young motorsport media content creator, entrepreneur, karting coach, and former championship-winning driver from the UK.
I started racing karts at just 10 years old, quickly picking up wins and competing across various championships. Over time, I transitioned from racing into building a career in motorsport media while still staying closely involved in the sport I love.
Alongside content creation, I study media at university, which has helped me develop my skills. My content has achieved over 37M+ views this year alone across social platforms which is pretty impressive if I do say so myself. I also coach young drivers, helping them build performance and confidence on track, passing on experience from my own racing journey.
I’ve worked in motorsport media production, including camera operator work for Alpha Live, helping capture live race coverage and behind-the-scenes content. I also run my own small business, RetyredByCatherine which I started at the age of just 12, recycling scrap tyres into personalised tyre clocks combining creativity with motorsport in a different way.
Through motorsport, I’ve been lucky enough to meet an incredible amount of people and if you’d told me a few years ago I’d be connecting with so many talented individuals through this journey, I probably wouldn’t have believed you. I’m especially grateful for the support and encouragement I’ve received along the way, including that from Nick Hamilton, which has been genuinely motivating. I’m grateful for every person I’ve had the chance to meet and every experience that’s helped shape my journey so far.
I’m really looking forward to working with Purple Helmet Racewear and helping grow their social presence through motorsport content both on and off the track.
Motorsport is still at the centre of everything I do just now from a different angle. If you would like to follow my journey you can find all my socials via the link

Hi, I'm Andy!

I'm so excited to be in this business with Paul as we have had this idea in our head for many years and just thought f*** it, let’s make it happen!
I’ve known Paul since I was 16 when we met at school and have been best mates ever since.
We’ve been through a lot together and supported each other for 29 years! We have loads of crazy ideas together but we really thought this one might work!
Paul is a motorsports and engineering genius and has a huge career in motorsport.
I love karting and watching motorsport from everything to grass roots, BTCC, all the way up to F1.
I’ve never done any professional racing but that’s where Paul’s expertise comes in.
I grew up on Sundays listening to the chain by Fleetwood Mac (Still the unofficial soundtrack to motorsport, don't argue) in anticipation for the race to begin. I so wish they would bring that back to F1!
But… my background. I’ve run a successful marketing company for 14 years called Podium Creative. Get on the Podium! An ode to my love of motorsport!
I’ve marketed everything from trucks to prickly trees (remember the Milky Way advert)! Sadly I can’t take credit for that as it was back in the 80’s when I was a young nipper, but I still know every word from that advert!
(Have a look here for some 80's nostalgia!)
For those in a younger racing generation, blue won by the way!
I have been doing marketing for 22 years but this, is the most exciting thing and fun thing I have done for a while.
Our brand is full of innuendo, full of fellow petrol heads and I’m excited to see what happens!
Hope you like the products girls and guys and wear it with a winning grin on your face!
Please remember that we print on demand, so it might take a up to 12-14 days to get to you.
Good things come to those who wait! Like a good pint of Guinness. We ain’t no Amazon yet but we hope we will speedily get there! Even if it’s round the outside!
Enjoy your order!
